Obituary
Retired Indianapolis Attorney Donald R. Willsey passed this past Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was 94 years old, just one month short of his 95th birthday.
Don was an attorney and an insurance executive manager until he retired in October of 1989. He also was a real estate developer and businessman who developed Greenwood Industrial Air Park and Golden Grove Estates in Greenwood, Indiana.
Don was married to Virginia R. (Hammond) Willsey for 54 years before her death in 2009.
In 2013, Don married Judith A. O’Bannon who survives him.
He was father to Robert W. “Bob” Willsey, (Leslie), Steven E. “Steve” Willsey, Rebecca J. “Becky” Willsey and Donald B. “Don” Willsey (Mindy). He was grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Don graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1947, Indiana University-Bloomington in 1951 and IU Law School-Indianapolis in 1954. He was an Army Veteran who started practicing law on the Indianapolis south side in 1956.
After his retirement at age 60, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Ginny until her passing and then with his wife Judy until his health prevented it when he turned 90.
His warm smile and positive outlook will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Thursday September 26th from 4 to 7pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143 with an additional visitation period on Friday, September 27th, 2024, from 11am to Noon.
Services will follow at 12 noon with a brief graveside burial service at the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 1pm.
