Obituary
Mr. James Frederick “Jim” Davis, a beloved member of the Indianapolis community, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the age of 84.
Jim was born and raised in Indianapolis, where he attended Emmerick Manual High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Indianapolis. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, which set the stage for a long and dedicated career. Jim worked in sales at Huber Chevrolet, where he was known for his personable nature and integrity, retiring in 2009 after 27 years of committed service.
In addition to his professional life, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves. His sense of duty and commitment extended beyond his military and work life; he was a longtime member of Southport Presbyterian Church, where for several years he served faithfully as a deacon. Jim’s warmth and kindness touched many within his church community, and he was a familiar presence in fellowship and service.
In his free time, Jim was an avid bridge player, a passion he shared with friends who valued his competitive spirit and camaraderie. Physical fitness was a lifelong priority, and he enjoyed exercising regularly to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Jim was also a devoted fan of the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts, cheering them on through the highs and lows of each season. A true animal lover, he was known for his gentle heart toward animals and cared deeply for all creatures.
Jim’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He cherished time spent with his loved ones and was a devoted husband and father.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Clara (Elmer) Davis; his son, Brett Davis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Joyce Davis, and his sister, Diane Updike.
Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Jim’s life. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, with Pastor Glen Massie officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:30 AM until the time of service. Jim will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
In honor of Jim’s love for children and his caring nature, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Riley Children’s Foundation in Indianapolis.
