Obituary

John Dennis Moberly, Indianapolis, passed away on the early morning of Tuesday, November 5, 2024. He was 73 years old. John was born in Edinburgh, IN to his parents Homer and Barbara Moberly. John’s father was in the Army and his family briefly lived in Japan and all around the United States during his childhood. He graduated from Center Grove High School, class of 1969. John married his wife, Virginia, on May 26, 2001, and they shared 23 years of marriage together. John answered the call of this nation by enlisting into the United States National Guard and later the United States Army and after his period of faithful service was honorably discharged. During his time in the Army, John lived in several interesting places including Germany and Africa.  

John worked as a truck driver for 35 years. John will lovingly be remembered as a fun loving and adventure seeking Hippie. He famously hitch hiked in his youth from Indianapolis to California with only $20 in his pocket. John loved collecting and sharing stories of his travels. John and his wife Ginny loved traveling together; some of their favorite places include the Badlands of South Dakota, and White Sand National Park in Alamogordo, New Mexico. John enjoyed riding motorcycles, partying and spending time with his beloved cat, Casper. John was a lifelong NASCAR and Indianapolis Colts fan. John loved spending time with his grandchildren. John’s happy demeanor and love for his family will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.  

John is survived by his wife, Ginny Moberly; his children, JT (Summer) Moberly, Daniel (Katelin) Moberly, Michelle (Cody) Gilley, Jerry (Diane) Haver and Aaron (Carrie) Haver; his 15 grandchildren; his 10 great grandchildren; his 1 great great grandchild; his siblings, Marylin (Mike) Day, Lori (Larry) Gaither, and Jim Moberly; his brother–in-law, Don Baggett; his several nieces and nephews. 
John is preceded in death by his parents; his late wife, Lanae Moberly; his siblings, Jackie Baggett and Mark Moberly. 
The visitation for John will be on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. The funeral service will be at 11:30 am at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 12:30 pm. John will be buried beside his late wife, Lanae Moberly, the mother of two of his children.
