Josephine Smochinsky

Obituary

Mrs. Josephine Smochinsky, 99, of Uniontown, passed peacefully away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the Uniontown Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Uniontown on March 19, 1925 to the late Joseph and Emma Saltick Yasechko.

Josephine graduated from Fairchance Georges High School.

She married Mr. John Smochinsky, and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1999.

Josephine worked at the family grocery store, Yasechko Grocery.

She is a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.  Josephine was dedicated to the blessed mother and always had her rosary in her hand.

She loved the people of the Phillipines and donated to several children’s charities.

Josephine enjoyed gardening, and sitting on her back porch to watch the deer and birds.

Josephine is survived by three children, Patricia Mayllen and husband Robert of Smock, Charlene Smochinsky of Uniontown, and John Smochinsky and wife Rose of McClellandtown; three grandchildren, Marcus Mayllen and wife Meghan of Indian Trail, NC, Lauren and Greg Smochinsky of McClellandtown; two brothers, Charles Yasechko of Smithfield and Richard Yasechko of Uniontown; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Yasechko of Ohio; dear friend, Genevive Chamberlain of Uniontown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three siblings, Albert Yasechko, Elizabeth Kovach, and Joseph “Sonny” Yasechko, Jr.

Visitation for Josephine will be held at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401 on Monday, October 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.  The funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Rd, Uniontown, PA 15401, on Tuesday, October 22 at 1:00 PM, with prayers of transfer at 12:15 PM at the funeral home.

Interment is in Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery in Uniontown.

A special thank you extended to the Mt. Macrina Manor and Hillside Manor for their support and dedication.
