Obituary

Mary Jo Hollingsworth, age 91, of Gadsden, AL, passed away on August 23, 2024, peacefully in the comfort of her home with her daughter by her side. She was born March 29, 1933, in Clay County, AL. Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, August 28th at Crestwood Chapel. Randy Hagan will be officiating the service.
Mary Jo dedicated over 40 years of service to Louis Street Baptist Church, alongside her late husband, Robert “Benny” Hollingsworth. As a devoted servant of the church, she played a pivotal role in various church activities, including leading Bible studies, Sunday school classes, and vacation Bible school, as well as serving the broader community. Her volunteer work extended to local nursing homes and hospitals, where she provided comfort and care to many.
Mary Jo was deeply committed to her faith, church, family, and friends. Her compassionate nature and innate ability to care for others was recognized and appreciated by all the lives she touched. Her infectious smile and laughter brought joy to all who knew her. She had a passion for traveling to the mountains, cooking, gardening, reading, and fishing. Mary Jo was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mrs. Hollingsworth is preceded in death by her parents, Lee Broughton Smith, Sr. And Eura Elizabeth Ingram Smith, sister Sara Smith Green, brothers Lee Broughton Smith, Jr. and Edward Clark Smith, husband Robert “Benny” Hollingsworth, son Robert “Alan” Hollingsworth, and daughter Jana Marie Hollingsworth.

She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Ann Hollingsworth, granddaughters Julie (Barry) Burnett, Cari (Michael) Young, great-grandchildren Brianna Thomason, Alex Burnett, Brody Burnett, brother-in-law Ronnie (Linda) Hollingsworth, nephews Brian (Amanda) Hollingsworth, Jonathan Hollingsworth, and Philip (Jillian) Hollingsworth; nieces and nephews Michael Smith, Debbie Smith Gilchrist, Curry Smith, Beth Green Streeter, David Green, Carol Green Batte 

Pallbearers will be Barry Burnett, Michael Young, Alex Burnett, Jonathan Hollingsworth, and Philip Hollingsworth.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 PM until the time of service.
