Mitchell DuBois

Obituary

Mitchell ”Mitch” DuBois, 73, passed away peacefully at his home on October 22, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Muncie, Indiana on January 1, 1951, to Willard DuBois and Burness (Bertram) Oliver. Mitchell lived a life full of unwavering love, steadfast commitment, and boundless happiness.

Mitch graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1969. He went on to work at Muncie Reclamation and New Castle Stainless Plate (formerly Outokumpu) where he retired after several years.

In 1984, he married the love of his life and best friend, Vana. They combined their families and made many memories with their children Eric, Amy, and Jami. They enjoyed family vacations and later Mitch and Vana were able to travel together to special places like Alaska, Hawaii, and a Route 66 trip across the country. Still, Mitch’s favorite place was “The River” in Constantine, Michigan where he made countless memories with family and friends.

Mitch was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved watching his kids and grandchildren enjoy these hobbies, as well. His grandchildren were his greatest joy. He had special nicknames for each of them: Shawn (Buckeroo), Leslie (Buckerette), Sara (Foodie Foo), Anna (Punkin), Adalyn (Munchkin), Adam (Whipper Snapper), Jovie (Doodlebug), Jameson (Mister), and Camden (Bronco).

Mitch is survived by his wife, Vana; his children, Eric DuBois (Laura), Amy Kreegar (Jeff), and Jami Kreegar; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; sisters, Pam Cochran (Bill), Norma Whitacre (Ernie), Michelle Keating (Francis “Fizz”), and Renee Oliver; brothers, Ric Oliver and Bill Oliver as well as many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willard DuBois (MaryEllen), Burness Oliver (Perry); nephew, Andrew Whitacre and niece, Allison Perry.

Mitch will be remembered for his selfless generosity, kind heart, and unconditional love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy is one of strength, compassion, and a commitment to those he held dear. He was a beloved husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, whose memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
