Robert Gary Connors

Obituary

Robert “Gary” Connors (also known as Tree), 74 of Ormond Beach, FL peacefully departed on Saturday, June 22nd at Advent Hospital in Daytona Beach surrounded by family.   

Gary was born on November 13, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, to the late Robert F. and Carolyn (Donahue) Connors. Gary graduated from Charles E. Gorton High School (Yonkers) and attended SUNY College in New York.  While in school, Gary participated in gymnastics, football, hunting and golf. Gary began working for the City of Yonkers before relocating to Ormond Beach in 1969 with his parents and four brothers. 

Gary started working for Atlantic First National Bank in Daytona Beach, where he eventually served as their Executive Vice-President. Soon thereafter, he met his life's love, Michele Perrott, and they married on April 14, 1973. Gary served as Executive Vice President of S.R. Perrott, Inc. their family-owned food and beverage distributorship for 45 years.  

He was a member and served as an officer of the Daytona Beach Jaycees, Ormond Beach Downtown Revitalization Task Force, Daytona Beach Sports Council, Ormond Beach Rotary, Ormond Beach, and Daytona Beach Chambers of Commerce.   

Gary was an avid golfer, and he was an accomplished sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition, he was an author, musician, and songwriter. He was happiest at home with his family and beloved dogs.   

He was an active member of Oceanside Country Club, Halifax River Yacht Club, Plantation Bay Country Club and was a founding member of the Sky Valley Golf and Country Club (Sky Valley, GA). 

Among Gary’s many accomplishments he was an integral part of the local National Flag Football Championship team (1982), the National Softball Championship team (1985) and a National Longest Drive Champion (1989). Additionally, he was awarded the Paul Harris Service Award (1999) and the Benchmark Award (2011) from the Ormond Beach Rotary. 

He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Michele Perrott Connors (Ormond Beach), Daughters; Eva Connors McMullin (John), and Colleen Connors-Timko. Grandchildren; Taylor Elizabeth Timko, Connor Chapman Timko and John Robert McMullin. Brothers; John Connors (Debbie), and Craig Connors. In addition to many nieces, nephews, and close friends.  

He is predeceased in death by his parents Robert F. and Carolyn (Donahue) and brothers Kevin and Brian Connors. 

A Catholic Service will be held on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church (1000 Oceanshore Blvd Ormond Beach, FL 32176), followed by Interment at Hillside Cemetery (143 Seton Tr, Ormond Beach, FL 32176). A Reception will follow at Oceanside Country Club (75 N Halifax Dr, Ormond Beach, FL 32176).  

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society, Father Lopez High School, St. Brendan’s Catholic School, and Halifax Humane Society.
