Obituary
At the age of 92, Sara Lou Brooks Mullinax joined her husband, the love of her life and best friend, Orvial Thomas (“O.T.”) Mullinax in Heaven on August 9, 2024. He preceded her in death in 2008. They were married for 58 years.
She was also preceded in death by their daughter, Linda Lu Mullinax Compton, her parents Hiram Allen Brooks and Vera Jane Martin Brooks, her brother, James “Popeye” Brooks, sister-in-law Pat Brooks, and Roxy, her four-legged companion for 12 years.
Sara Lou is survived by a wonderful son-in-law, Richard Harrison Compton, Jr.; a loving and devoted granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Compton McWhorter; a wonderful grandson-in-law, Scott McWhorter; a precious great-grandson, Daniel Harrison McWhorter; her caring sister and brother-in-law, Jo Brooks Bullock and Euclid Isbell Bullock; her supportive niece, Susan Bullock Hand, nephew-in-law, Jon Dean Hand, and nephew Michael Allen Bullock.
She loved her extended family members Larry, Julie, and Jason McWhorter, and John and Paula Compton and appreciated the friendship of Dave Whyte and Jerry and Sharon Ware. Sara Lou was a “second mama” for years to her daughter’s forever friends Dixie Minatra, the late Carol Carlisle, Shannon Dye, Judie Ingemie, and Brenda Snow.
Born in Ashland, Alabama, Sara Lou lived in the Gadsden area most of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, as well as a faithful member of her church. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and crafting. She retired from the Gadsden Times after many years as the switchboard operator.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service on Wednesday, August 14 at 10:00am at Crestwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden, Alabama.
