Obituary
Thelma Taleen Spade, Greenwood, IN, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024. She was 109 years old. Thelma was born in Portland, IN to her parents Rohn and Virginia Slick. She was raised as an only child on her family farm. Thelma was passionate about earning her education. She attended a one room schoolhouse and by the time high school graduation came around, Thelma was the only person in her class. Thelma graduated from Jay County High School. Thelma married her husband, Jake Spade, and together they shared over 60 years of marriage until Jake passed away in 2007.
Thelma served her family as a homemaker all her life. Thelma was a member of Southport Presbyterian Church with her husband for over 50 years. Thelma enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing Euchre and Bridge, and reading in her spare time. Thelma loved BINGO and was a regular winner at Independence Village; she was the BINGO queen. She will be remembered for her quiet and friendly demeanor. Thelma made several friends during her time at Independence village; her agreeable nature and warmth made friendship easy. Thelma also loved spending time with her loved ones and will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Susan (John) Barnard; her grandchildren, Kristy, Tom Jr. and Debbie; her several great grandchildren; her dear friend, Bobbi O’Neal.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Thomas David Spade.
