Thomas Lamar Simmons

Obituary

Funeral services will be 1 pm Monday, September 16,2024, at MeadowBrook Baptist Church for Thomas Lamar Simmons Jr., 87,of Rainbow City went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday September  12, 2024.  Thomas leaves a legacy of children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 64 years of marriage. Thomas has 3 children , TL Simmons (Shannon), Laura Richey (John) and Jon Simmons (Laura Lee).  He has 8 grandchildren, Tommy Simmons, Bree McCallister, John William Richey (Sara) , Ben Richey (Rachel), Jack Richey (Paige), Logan Simmons, Olivia Blackman (Collin), Tate Simmons.  He also had three great-grandchildren, JC and Dalton Blackman, Reece Richey.Sister Ellen Blair. 
He was a devoted Christian and spent his life witnessing, caring for others and sharing the gospel through his daily life and through his talent with his calligraphy. 
Thomas was a member of MeadowBrook Baptist Church for 50 years.  He developed life long friendships through church and was still active in keeping in touch with his friends until his death. 
Thomas loved his family and found joy in all being together . 
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents , Thomas and Ethel Simmons and by his sisters Joann Simmons and Betty Jones. 
Funeral Services will be Monday Sept 16, 2024 at 1:00pm with visitation starting at 12pm at MeadowBrook Baptist Church in Gadsden. Reverend Randy Gunter will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons:  Tommy Simmons, John William Richey, Ben Richey, Jack Richey, Logan Simmons, Tate Simmons. 
Honorary Pallbearers:  Bennett Tucker, Gary Downey and Hugh Baskin.
In lieu of flowers , memorials may be made to MeadowBrook Baptist Church and the Big Oak Ranch . The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 12 pm until the time of service.
