Obituary
Walter (Ron) Roland Sanders passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on August 7, 2024. He was 83.
Ron was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. He attended Manual High School where he was a member of the infamous 1959 State Championship football team. Ron’s mission in life was to protect and serve. After high school, he joined the National Guard as a Military Policeman.
In 1968, Ron joined the Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) where he worked proudly for 40 years - 35 of which was with the Vice & Narcotics unit. While serving with IPD, he worked a variety of security details including Indianapolis Power & Light, The Sexton Companies and 20 years with Simon Property Group.
Above all, Ron loved and adored his family. He was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, season ticket holder for years - traveling up to Soldier Field each and every Sunday. Ron was an avid motorcyclist, often taking trips around the country.
Ron is survived by his wife Dongmei, his children: Lisa (David), Rob (Vanessa), Chris (Sara), Tiger (Sophia), his grandchildren: Lexi (Blake), Cole (Meredith), Ethan, Griffin, Grahm, Reid and Tatum; and his sister Velma.
Visitation and services will be held at Forest Lawn Mortuary and Cemetery located at 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143 on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11am; Service at 1pm.
