Obituary
Wayne Edwin Park of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the age of 94. Born April 11, 1930 in Johnson County, Indiana, Wayne was a son of the late Roy Edwin and Stella May (Pitcher) Park.
Wayne graduated from Trafalgar High School as a proud member of the Class of 1948. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force. His commitment and dedication were further exemplified by his 22-year career at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in contract management, where he retired in 1974. His work contributed to the advancements in space exploration during a pivotal era in American history.
A man of faith, Wayne was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Washington, Indiana. He found solace and joy in nature, particularly while fishing and camping at Dogwood Lake in Montgomery, Indiana. Whether tending to his yard or fixing cars, Wayne had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and a knack for working with his hands, especially in his skillful work on carburetors. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family over a game of cards.
Wayne’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife of 73 years, Josephine (Hyatt) Park; his children Darrell (Terry) Park, Pamela Jo (Tom) Sas and Steven (Tonja) Park; his eight grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in passing by his granddaughter, Melissa Mitchell and his two brothers, Donald Park and Robert Park.
A private inurnment will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana, at the convenience of the family. Wayne’s life was a testament to service, love, and the simple joys of life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In keeping with Mr. Park's wished, there will be nor public funeral services.
