Obituary
Chapel services for William Pierson (Pete) Long, Jr. will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home on Friday October 4, 2024, at 11:00am, who passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Pete was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He lived a life filled with faith, love, and family. As he always would say, he was “well blessed and thankful.” Pete was married to his high school sweetheart, Rebecca (Becky) Alexander Long for 50 years. Together they had their 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren who were his everything. In addition to his love for his family and his love for Jesus, Pete was also known for his love of animals, adventure, fishing, scuba diving and mining. Pete’s expeditions took him to the Caribbean, Alaska, Africa and all over the Southeast. Pete was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and from the Air National Guard Reserves.
Pete will always be remembered to his grandchildren as Pete, Grandpa or Pob, who always loved to teach them new things, and even up until just a few weeks ago, would make it to their sporting events and school functions. His love for family was matched only by his love for his gracious and heavenly father, which guided him throughout his life. Pete will always be remembered for his humble prayers and for singing hymns in his deep voice. We know with confidence that Pete is in his creator’s hands today with those who have gone before him.
