In Loving Memory of

William D. "Bill" Miller

April 25th, 1938 - August 13th, 2024

Obituary

William D. Miller passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 25, 1938, in Altoona, he was the son of Marjorie (Dietrick) Miller and Charles Miller. Bill had three brothers—Philip (deceased), Bud, and Raymond (deceased)—and two sisters, Barbara and Maureen. He graduated from the Altoona School of Commerce with an associate's degree in accounting before serving two years in the military.

In 1961, Bill found the love of his life, Rose Marie Bambocci, and they shared 32 wonderful years of love and happiness until her passing in 1993. Their love story began at a dance hall in Altoona, where their shared passion for music and dancing created a deep connection. Their dance was so natural and beautiful that it often left people in awe. Now, they are reunited, and we find comfort in the thought that they are dancing together once more.

Bill would proudly tell you that one of his greatest joys was his family and raising his four children: Dana (Paul), Lisa, Steve (Debbie), and Bill (Tami).

In 2001, he married Lucinda Saylor, who predeceased him.

He spent 35 years working as the associate bursar at Penn State, where he built lasting friendships and could often be found swimming laps at the Natatorium during his lunch break. Bill wasn’t just a star on the dance floor—he had a special gift for being the life of the party with his delightfully corny sense of humor and his passion for singing. For over 30 years, he was a cherished member of the Nittany Knights and also enjoyed a long tenure with the St. John’s folk group, where he was a parishioner for over five decades.

On stage, he loved to ham it up, especially when it came to musicals, bringing his unique flair and joy to every performance. His sweet soul and wonderfully cheesy jokes will be deeply missed, but we’ll keep his playful spirit alive by passing on his favorite puns and continuing to laugh just as he would have wanted.

In addition to his four children, he was blessed with four grandchildren: Craig and Alison Heimer, and Eli and Rhys Miller.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Parkinson's Foundation in memory of William D. Miller.
