William Ray Shreves
July 26, 1946 – November 14, 2024
William Ray Shreves, 78, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on November 14, 2024. He was born in Muncie on July 26, 1946, to the late Melvin and Edna (Walker) Shreves.
William proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. Throughout his service, he earned several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
After his military service, William worked for General Motors Corporation. He was also one of the founding members of the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Company and served as a driver and first responder for Eaton EMTs Inc.
A lover of history, William was passionate about war history, old movies, and oldies music. He also enjoyed boating and cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Margaret Shreves; his son Jason (Emily) Shreves; daughter Lindy (Kyle) Holdren; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Shreves and Jerry Shreves, and sisters Lynda Ratliff and Rita Darner.
Visitation will be held on November 20, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Road 3, Muncie, IN 47303. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Indy Honor Flight or the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, in honor of William's service and dedication to his community.
